Budi returned to Indonesia on December 9, 2024, at 18:29 WIB (Western Indonesia Time). On December 10, 2024, Budi has been laid in rest in Indramayu, West Java, attended by dozens of people from his family, fisherfolk, NGO networks, and grassroots organizations. On behalf of Budi Laksana’s family, the Secretary-General of the Indonesian Fisherfolks Union, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to all comrades from WFFP who had provided support, good prayers, and efforts toward Budi Laksana’s recovery.
Since Budi Laksana fell ill in Brasilia, he was never alone and always received affection and support from all the Comrades in WFFP. We believe Budi felt the love and care from all the comrades in WFFP. On November 21, 2024, exactly on International Fisheries Day, the day Budi went into a coma, Budi gave us a mandate. He entrusted us with his continuing fights: the fight for sovereignty over spaces and food sovereignty
Thank you so much, Comrades. Perhaps these words will never be enough to fully convey our gratitude to you and to Budi’s family. Budi has returned home, Rest in Power, Budi.
