As part of the global 5 Weeks Fisher Rights campaign initiated by the World Forum of Fisher Peoples, FIAN International and WFFP are coorganising an international consultation to dialogue with Dr. Elisa Morgera, UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights and Climate Change, as part of the Call for Inputs on Transforming Food Systems to Protect Human Rights and Prevent Climate Harm. This consultation brings forward the voices of fisher peoples – communities whose rights, livelihoods, and cultures are being reshaped by the climate crisis and by top-down ‘food systems transformation’ agendas and false solutions.

Fisher leaders from Thailand, Indonesia, South Africa and others will speak directly with the Special Rapporteur, sharing how climate impacts, exclusionary development models, and private-sector-driven policies are destroying fisheries, eroding territorial rights, and undermining their human rights, in particular their right to food and nutrition.

By opening a direct channel between fisher peoples and the UN Special Procedures, this consultation seeks to ensure that future UN recommendations and national policy reforms reflect their realities, knowledge, and priorities – and strengthen the push for justice-based, community-led, and truly climate-resilient food systems.
